Going on a holiday is always a pleasant thought. It helps you relieve from stressful activity as you move away from work. Going on an international holiday is a very costly affair. You spend hefty amounts to enjoy your vacation. Make sure that you have insured your vacation. This article is a brief insight on Travel insurance and other terms relating to it.

Generally, Travel insurance is a type of insurance which covers all the type expenses or losses incurred while traveling. It compensates the buyer in case of any loss, damage or even cancellation. It not only protects a person from the worst adverse situation but also compensates the user for some basic and general problems like flight delays or even if one misses a flight.

Every year millions of travelers buy one or the other form of travel insurance. It would be informative to know that 15% of the British still travel without buying travel insurance. It could cost them thousands of pounds to return to UK if an emergency situation occurs. So it would be always wise to be insured while traveling abroad.

There are thousands of insurance policies available by different companies, each providing variant facilities and coverage. It is always advisable to go through the offer document thoroughly before you make any purchase. Certain policies are also open to amendment to suit your personal needs.

The basic risks that are covered by travel insurance are Medical expenses, Cancellations, delayed departure, Loss or theft of luggage, accidental death and many more. Certain additional facilities are also offered, which should be bought at an extra cost. Traveling to high risk area, activities which involve high risk are some of the extra feature that is bought in an insurance policy .

The contents or the coverage of Travel insurance can be broadly classifies into four categories.

Cancellation and Delay insurance: The buyer is reimbursed for delay in flight or even in case of cancellation of flight i.e. if the buyer has booked for a holiday and cannot board due to certain personal reasons like illness, unemployment, weather conditions etc. The insurance holder is paid for the hotel and other expenses involved during the course of delay.

Damage or Loss of personal effects: This category mainly involves in compensating the travelers for damage or loss of personal goods. It also provides additional facilities like telephone assistance or even assistance service to the traveler, just in case the traveler is in a new holiday location and doesn’t know much about the location.

Death insurance to travelers: Travel insurance also provides for high risks like death. But the coverage offered in this case is, sometimes, minimum due to the rate of risk involved. In certain situation like death in flight, the coverage is fairly good as the possibility of occurrence of the event is minimal. 

Insurance for Health: This is usually concerned with reimbursement of medical and other related expense in case of any emergency. To be more elaborate, it involves emergency transportation to nearby Health care units or any medical expense involved during the vacation period. This is the major part of the travel insurance as the health of buyer is concerned.
