Travel-How Has Terrorism Affected The Travel Industry?
Terrorism and its effects:
Terrorism is defined as an illegal act of violence and destruction. In the twentieth century it became necessary for the UN to declare terrorism as a global problem. Terrorism has shown its ugly face in almost all the parts of the world and its effects can be very diverse. Terrorist acts can be done by an individual or some groups formed by people with common interest.
There are never any positive sides to the world of terrorism. The major destruction is that of human life. Other types of losses are property losses which occur as a result of bombarding. The life cycle of a particular area gets completely lost if struck by terrorism. Economy, on the other hand suffers badly and as a result each and every individual is affected.
The importance of travel industry:
Travel industry is a very well established and profitable industry regardless its place of functioning. Travel industry provides a base to the tourism of a country and on the other side increases the economy of a region by allowing people to visit this place. This industry is directly associated with human life and is totally dependent upon the factors which surround a tourist location at one time.
In travel industry, the means of communication is not the only source of income. Associated with it are numerous hotels, guides, malls etc. all the previously mentioned sources work together to give a boost to this industry. In case of terrorism this industry tends to be one of the most badly hit and its affects can be disappointing.
Terrorism and travel industry:
Suppose some terrorist attacks take place at a particular location then indirectly the tourists interested to visit this place will not prefer to tour this place. Thus the travel industry faces heavy losses. Another way to look at this is that the residents of this place will not tour another location until they bring their own life on tracks.
The travel industry has a major fear of terrorist attacks on board. It means that if some customers on a tour are injured during a terrorist attack then indirectly the travel industry will be in the minds of the people citing security reasons. Thus the goodwill of the industry hangs in despair. In these cases people tend towards other agencies for their traveling needs.
If multiple cases of terrorism are found to be occurring near a particular location or a renowned monument then it is certain to draw fewer crowds thus affecting the business of the travel industry. Nowadays, hijacking is another issue that looms dangerously over this industry. Using the industry’s sources, the terrorists can satisfy their own purposes.
There is always a danger of smuggling being carried out on public transport vehicles. The travel industry has to be on its toes to prevent such malpractices. Thus terrorism poses as a huge threat to the travel industry and the only thing that can be done is intense precaution and hoping for a better world tomorrow.
