Travel – A Brief Explanation About Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is an insurance that literally covers medical expenses, financial and other losses which are incurred while traveling in ones own country or outside the country.

The insurance can be obtained at the time of booking the trip to cover exactly the duration of that trip, or a more extensive insurance can be purchased from travel insurance companies, travel agents or directly from travel suppliers such as cruise lines or tour operators. However, the policy purchased from the travel suppliers is less inclusive of the different benefits than the policy offered by the insurance companies.

Travel insurance offers coverage for a variety of travelers like leisure travel, student travel, adventure travel, business travel, international travel and cruise travel. The most common risks covered by travel insurance are medical expenses, emergency repatriation, trip cancellation/interruption, accidental death, injury or disablement benefit, overseas funeral expenses, curtailment, delayed departure, loss, theft or damage to personal possessions and money (including travel documents), and delayed baggage.

Types of Travel Insurance:

Single Trip Travelers Insurance

Single trip travelers insurance offers coverage for you and your family for a holiday or a single trip intend to travel. It covers trip cancellation/interruption and medical travel insurance for the period of your travel. Some companies do not offer this package. However, additional coverage can be offered as a part of the package or is your choice to incorporate it.

Annual Travelers Insurance

Travel insurance plans offered yearly are known as annual travel insurance. These plans are for a longer period and offered to those who travel frequently to different destinations of the world. However, the limit of days and number of trips are specified by certain companies.

Long Stay Travel Insurance

This long stay insurance policy offers duration of 3 to 18 months and is perfect for travelers who take long vacations and travel extensively. This insurance offers only the basic coverage but you can opt for an additional cover.

Medical Travel Insurance

Medical travel insurance policy covers health related problems that take place during the term of the policy and the existing ailments are not taken into consideration. The traveler needs to declare the pre existing ailments before travel as no claim can be made if any symptom related to pre existing condition occurs during travel.

Business Travelers Insurance

Business travel includes you and your employees traveling on a regular basis. Thus, you can opt for business drivellers insurance to compensate for the loss that might occur during the travel. Business travel can be incorporated in-group or annual travel insurance policy.

Cruise Travelers Insurance

If you are traveling by sea in a registered cruise, liner or any other mode of water transport than topical storms or hurricanes can obstruct your trip and you may need to cancel your trip. Sometimes you are insured by the company that owns the cruise and the costs depend on the duration of travel.

Group Travel Insurance

Group travelers insurance includes insurance offered to groups traveling on a pilgrimage or a vacation. Since taking individual insurance cover can be cumbersome, group insurance is offered so that all are safe from mishaps that occur during your travel.

There are a number of travel insurance plans with distinguishing rates and facilities. A suitable insurance policy is an inseparable part of your trip and gives you peace of mind. You can opt for the specific plans according to your budget requirements.
