Vital Medical Precautions To Take Before Travelling

Travel whether international or internal always exposes to the changes in temperature, climate and diseases which can affect your health. Therefore it is always imperative to take medical precautions and also do considerable research on the destination you are planning to go to avoid health problems later on.

You need to do accurate planning to stay health during your entire trip. Visit your medical practitioner at least 6 weeks before you plan to travel so that you’ll have enough time for vaccinations and other medical precautions you will have to take in advance. There are several points to consider before embarking on a trip.

Recommended Vaccines

These are some of the vaccines that are recommended when undertaking overseas travel.

• Typhoid
• Rabies
• Hepatitis A
• Hepatitis B
• Meningitis
• Yellow fever
• MMR

Precautions for traveler’s diarrhea

• Avoid uncooked meat, vegetables and fish.
• Eat only fruits that have been washed and peeled with your hands
• Wash your hands before and after eating.
• Eat recently cooked and hot food.
• Drink only mineral water.
• Avoid dairy products, pastries, creams, ice cubes etc

Taking care of your individual health concerns

If you have any health concerns or chronic diseases such as allergies or dibetes, asthma, heart conditions etc you must visit your doctor before you travel. In order to accommodate your health conditions you may have to adjust your travel itinerary.

For instance, if you have a heart condition or blood clotting problems, you may have to take shorter flights with stopovers to avoid long periods of non movement. If you have any lung diseases or asthma, you have to avoid thickly polluted cities.

You may need to carry a letter describing your health problems and a list of your daily medications along with the generic name and prescriptions along with refills if you will be away for a long time. Those with heart conditions should always carry a copy of their most recent ECG and EKG for purposes of comparison should they encounter chest pain while on their trip.

Evaluate whether you will be able to physically meet the hectic schedule of your travel .Trying getting fit before your trip by beginning an exercise program in advance. If you are pregnant, you need to notify the airlines how far along you are and try taking walks on a long haul flight.

Many medical practitioners recommend that you carry a medical first aid kit along with you with essential items such as pain relieving medications, sunscreens, moleskin, antifungal cream, insect repellents, anti diarrheal tablets and antibacterial ointments.
Insurance

Carry medical information form with you and leave another one with your primary contact in the United States. In this form record your insurance details, your primary doctor’s contact number. Get a travel insurance which is definitely worth the money and is anyway inexpensive.

Immediately contact the local US consulate in case you become seriously sick as they will get you admitted in to a reputed medical centre.

Your travel is bound to be exciting, relaxing and relatively stress free if you follow these medical precautions without fail.

This is such a wonderful resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing sites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free. It?s the old what goes around comes around routine. My best wishes, Jodee.

Its quite necessary to take complete medical check-up if you are going to some hill stations etc.. Otherwise for small trips you don't need it
